Ensemble Connect

Ensemble Connect kicks off its 2018–2019 season by performing Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet, Kaija Saariaho’s Light and Matter, and Brahms’s Clarinet Trio in A Minor, Op. 114. Also featured on the program is the New York premiere of a new work by Gabriella Smith, commissioned by Carnegie Hall.

LP Duo: New Classics & Beyond for 2 Hybrid Pianos

LP Duo (Sonja Loncar and Andrija Pavlovic) return to New York to present the US premiere of the newly-invented “hybrid pianos.” These instruments came as a result of a collaboration between the LP Duo and quantum physicists from Oxford and Singapore. Hybrids connect acoustic pianos with retro-synthesizers and the sounds from the quantum laboratories. The concert features music by Adams, Helweg, Raickovich, Bozicevic, Meijering, and Correa.

andPlay will perform two large-scale works: Catherine Lamb’s Prisma Interius VIII (newly arranged for violin/viola) and Kristofer Svensson’s Vid stenmuren blir tanken blomma (commissioned by andPlay). Entirely in Just Intonation, this program will allow the performers and audience to deeply explore the relationships among melody, harmony, timbre, silence, and noise.

The Rensselaer Orchestra

The Rensselaer Orchestra is an ensemble of undergraduate and graduate students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Under the direction of Maestro Nicholas DeMaison, the ensemble will perform Missy Mazzoli’s River Rouge Transfiguration and Jean Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 82. This performance will celebrate the launch of Rensselaer’s new Bachelor of Science in Music.

Words on the Street

In this hybrid music-theatre performance, a baby is abducted, and the Seven Deadly Sins call a summit meeting at which they play out their power struggle. Pandemonium reigns in a dystopian world teaming with falsehood and plagued by threat. This book of poetry, written by Anna Rabinowitz, has been transformed into a hybrid performance event, collaboratively conceived and developed by the writer, director Kristin Marting, video designer Lianne Arnold, and the late composer Matt Marks (1980-2018). Additional compositions were provided by by Lainie Fefferman, John Glover, Mary Kouyoumdjian, David T. Little, Kamala Sankaram, Caroline Shaw, and Randall Woolf.
