Looking Back & Onward: SEM in 1986 & 2018
The S.E.M Ensemble’s annual concert at Paula Cooper Gallery will begin this year by looking at the close collaboration between Petr Kotik and Ben Neill in the 1980s. Both Kotik’s Wilsie Bridge, and Neill’s Money Talk were staples of SEMs repertoire during that time. Next to these 80’s compositions, SEM will present a series of current works by Kotik, Neill, Miya Masaoka, and Michael J. Schumacher.

Bill Frisell Solo: A Benefit for Roulette
On December 20th, in celebration of Roulette’s 40th year, legendary guitarist and composer Bill Frisell plays a benefit concert featuring new work from his recently released album Music IS, as well as vintage compositions. This is Frisell’s first solo concert since 2017 and is the only solo New York City performance since the album’s release. All proceeds from the concert will go to support Roulette’s artists and performances.

Make Music Winter
Make Music Winter is NYC’s free, outdoor music-making celebration featuring participatory parades representing a variety of cultures and genres. As the longest night of the year unfolds and the journey of our planet nears the point when Winter commences in the Northern Hemisphere, Phill Niblock stages his annual Winter Solstice concert for the 8th consecutive year in Roulette’s Atlantic Avenue theatre space. Starting at 6:00 PM, the performance will comprise of six hours of acoustic and electronic music and mixed media film and video in a live procession that charts the movement of our planet and the progress of ourselves through art and performance at its maximal best.
