Deep River

Activist orchestra The Dream Unfinished’s 2019 season Deep River focuses on the intersection of climate and social justice through the lens of composers who hail from communities impacted by climate change and other environmental issues. Their season finale will include speakers and activists who will provide a local and global perspective on climate change’s impact on communities of color, and premiere new orchestrations of works by Trevor Weston, Zenobia Powell Perry, and others.

Young People’s Chorus (YPC)

Bang on a Can and the Jewish Museum co-present the Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC), conducted by Francisco J. Nunez. YPC will sing and recite songs and poems by Leonard Cohen, along with other works, which include two by Bang on a Can co-founders: an excerpt from Fire in My Mouth by Julia Wolfe and a work YPC commissioned from Michael Gordon (YPC’s composer in residence). The program also features an original YPC Gershwin medley, entitled I Got Gershwin.

Unheard-of//Trios

Unheard-of//Ensemble by Michael Yu

Unheard-of//Ensemble presents a program of trio works for clarinet, violin, and cello. They feature Elliott Carter’s Con Leggerezza Pensosa and Ursula Mamlok’s Five Bagatelles alongside two works by composers Jeewon Kim and Shasha Chen written as part of Unheard-of’s recent workshop with students from Manhattan School of Music. Unheard-of also performs Melissa Dunphy’s Tangled/Triangle and Seth Boustead’s Daughters of the Moon based on an Italo Calvino short story. They also premiere works by Unheard-of’s clarinetist Ford Fourqurean and selections from Cirque de solfège, a seven-movement miniature work written for Unheard-of’s community engagement concerts by Queens-based composer Sunny Knable.
