Jessica Pavone String Ensemble: Brick and Mortar

This concert celebrates the first album release from Jessica Pavone’s newest incarnation for string ensemble, which features two violins and two violas. Brick and Mortar, to be released on Birdwatcher Records on October 4th, 2019, is her first body of string ensemble music since pausing to focus on writing for solo viola for the last six years.

HEROINE the Album Release Party: Live Concert Meditation

Pauline Kim Harris’s debut album, Heroine, is a melding of ambient and classical, and features two new works for violin and electronics: Ambient Chaconne, a reimagining of J.S. Bach’s Chaconne from the Partita in D minor; and Deo, a reimagining of Johannes Ockeghem’s Deo Gratias. Both pieces are co-composed by Harris and Spencer Topel. The New York concert is meant to be a meditative experience, and the audience is encouraged to bring their own yoga mats.

MSM Artists in Residence: American String Quartet

Manhattan School of Music presents Artists in Residence, the American String Quartet, in the New York premiere of composer Vivian Fung’s String Quartet No. 4, “Insects and Machines.” The program also includes Haydn’s String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 76, No. 4, “Sunrise” and Brahms’ String Quintet No. 2 in G Major, Op. 111 featuring guest violist Danielle Farina.

TELEGRAMS This program showcases TAK’s newest member, clarinetist Madison Greenstone, performing Telegrams, an 18-minute work for solo bass clarinet and bluetooth speakers by Michelle Lou. Lou, will be programmed alongside works by Julien Malaussena, Natacha Diels, George Aperghis, and Jessie Marino.
