New Amsterdam Presents Michael Mizrahi and Nadia Sirota

To celebrate the release of his new album The Bright Motion, pianist Michael Mizrahi will take the stage at (Le) Poisson Rouge on June 12. Mizrahi will perform from Motion (out May 29 on New Amsterdam Records), which includes pieces by Ryan Brown, Patrick Burke, Mark Dancigers, Judd Greenstein, John Mayrose, and will feature a live premiere of William Brittelle’s piece on the record, “Computer Wave.” Nadia Sirota will join to debut work from her forthcoming sophomore album, out fall 2012 also on New Amsterdam Records. Nadia will perform the New York premiere of Judd Greenstein’s In Teaching Others We Teach Ourselves for multi-tracked viola, in addition to other works from the forthcoming album, which will include pieces by Missy Mazzoli, Shara Worden, Daniel Bjarnasson, and more.

Build and Empyrean Atlas

On June 12 two composer-led bands share a bill at Drom. Build (led bycomposer/violinist Matt McBane) and Empyrean Atlas (led by composer/saxophonist David Crowell) are instrumental ensembles that draw influences from across genres.

Sideband

The ensemble will perform eight works by Sideband members Michael Early, Lainie Fefferman, Anne Hege, Daniel Iglesia, Konrad Kaczmarek, Jascha Narveson, Jeff Snyder, and Dan Trueman. Each of the evening’s composers mixes and recombines the roles of composer, programmer, instrument builder, and performer; this yields results well beyond the bounds of existing software applications or musical models, into a realm where nearly any musical idea can be realized.

Ear to Mind Presents This Is Just To Say: Live Art II

Features works by Inhyun Kim, Judith Ring, Nomi Epstein, and Sonia Megias, and performance by soprano, Megan Schubertand Pianist, David Kalhous. This interdisciplinary concert, which also features works by Naho Taruishi, video artist and dancers/choreographers Coco Karol and Luke Gutgsell.

So Percussion’s International Night of Awesome(ness)

For one incredible night at LPR in New York City, So Percussion brings together multiple generations of percussionists to celebrate our community. The event features headlining ensembles Nexus Percussion Ensemble from Canada (original members of Steve Reich and Musicians), and Amadinda Percussion Group (Budapest, Hungary). Other groups on the night include So Percussion, the MP Duo, Mantra Percussion, the Akros Percussion collective, Tigue, and Siren. The evening culminates in an “all-play” of Terry Riley’s In C!
