Alone Together by Robert Honstein

This week, we’re premiering another fantastic (Four/Ten Media) new music video: Alone Together (2012), composed by Robert Honstein and performed by Lisa Dowling.

“In this video,” says Chapman from Four/Ten, “we sought to convey the concept behind ‘Alone Together’ as effectively as we could. I wanted to create an atmosphere that was cold, isolated, and dominated by technology. Since Lisa played and sung all four parts herself, it also fit the concept to edit the video so there were four of her in one frame, further driving home the idea of ‘being with people’ but really just still being alone.”

ABOUT THE COMPOSER

Celebrated for his “roiling, insistent orchestral figuration” (New York Times) and “glittery, percussive pieces” (Toronto Globe and Mail), composer Robert Honstein (b. 1980) is a composer of orchestral, chamber, and vocal music. His works have been performed throughout the world by ensembles such as the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, the New York Youth Symphony, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Eighth Blackbird, Ensemble ACJW, Ensemble Dal Niente, the Mivos quartet, the Del Sol Quartet, Concert Black, TIGUE, and Present Music, among others. He has received an Aaron Copland Award, multiple ASCAP awards and other honors from SCI, Carnegie Hall, and New Music USA. He has also received residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Copland House, the Bang on a Can Summer Institute, and the Tanglewood Music Center.

ABOUT LISA DOWLING

Lisa Dowling is an Australian bassist, guitaronnista, composer, vocalist and improviser whose work has been celebrated as “Bjork-like and innovative” (New York Times) and “brusquely subtle or exquisitely dense” (Innana Naked). She released her debut electronic alternative pop album with Gold Bolus Recordings in May of 2015. Entitled lullaby apocalypse under the moniker kills to kisses, the album is a marriage of acoustic contemporary classical techniques, looping artistry, electronica, trip hop and folk. She has also completed additional training at the Conservatoire de Paris on Viennese Violone, the Victorian College of the Arts (Australia), The New School and with renowned French pedagogue, Francois Rabbath.
