The GRAMMY-nominated Spektral Quartet is presenting the Chicago premiere of Morton Feldman’s Quartet No. 2 on Saturday and we have the exclusive video of the quartet’s rigorous training for this 6-hour behemoth.

The March 11 show at the Museum of Contemporary Art is sold out (keep an eye open for standby tickets being released this week), but Midwesterners can head to the handsome Toledo Museum of Art on March 25 for a second installment.

Published in 1983, the Quartet No. 2 unmoors the audience’s perception of the passage of time, offering a very personal listening experience for which there are infinite “right” ways to listen—and get blissfully lost.

But as the Boston Globe has written, Spektral is “…serious about the music, not about themselves.” Look out, CrossFit.

Filmed and edited by Freddy Tsao.

Spektral Quartet is:

  • Clara Lyon (violin)
  • Maeve Feinberg (violin)
  • Doyle Armbrust (viola)
  • Russell Rolen (cello)
