Maithuna: Portrait of Mario Lavista

In collaboration with the Centro de Experimentación del Teatro Colón, Music of the Americas presents the U.S. premiere of Mexican composer Mario Lavista’s Maithuna, after the eponymous poem of Octavio Paz, as well as his Salmo for soprano and double bass, and other works.

Bang on a Can: Music Among Friends

In conjunction with The Museum of Modern Art’s exhibition Robert Rauschenberg: Among Friends, Bang on a Can presents a pair of two concerts exploring artistic exchanges and their legacy for contemporary music. Currents is an electro-acoustic concert that juxtaposes contrasting compositional styles in an eclectic program, celebrating the marriage of tradition and technology. Nouveau Classical Project will premiere new electro-acoustic works by composers who thrive in both the classical and pop worlds, including Olga Bell, Gabrielle Herbst, David Bird, and Isaac Schankler. VJ Mamiko Kushida will create ambient video projections for the performance, and musicians’ costumes will be styled by members of the NYC indie fashion collective Flying Solo.

Sound, Space, Simulation: Myth

Myth is the first of two events curated by Qubit New Music that highlight the intricate relationships between architecture and music. Zone is the second and last event of Sound, Space, Simulation, and features a collaborative multi-media installation by Alec Hall and the New York architecture collective c-o-l-o-n, musical performances by Carolyn Chen with Weston Olencki, and a panel discussion with the artists following the event.
