North/South Chamber Orchestra

North/South Chamber Orchestra concludes its 39th consecutive season performing five exciting works by composers from Italy and the Americas. To be heard in New York for the first time are recent works by Hayg Boyadjian, Federico Ermirio, Max Lifchitz, and Julia Mermelstein. Also, a work for strings by Teresa Carreno, the 19th-century pianist-composer from Venezuela.

Cecilia Lopez: RED

Fusing architecture, installation, and performance, Argentinian composer, musician, and media artist Cecilia Lopez closes her Roulette residency creating a living acoustic environment that uses the unique architecture of Roulette’s theater. In RED two large woven wire nets hung from Roulette’s ceiling hold instruments to create a complex feedback organism that reflects and refracts the space into a mesmerizing audio experience. The suspended drums and double bass act as resonant bodies intensified by the instruments simultaneously played in the space by percussionist Gerald Cleaver and bassist Brandon Lopez.

Caitlin Cawley and Ford Fourqurean

Percussionist Caitlin Cawley and clarinetist Ford Fourqurean host a double set of works using interactive electronics and multimedia. Caitlin will present a program of theatrical works for percussion and electronics, featuring David Adamcyk’s Six Drawings by Randall for amplified balloon, electronics and projected art by Julia Randall, as well as original compositions and improvisations. She also premieres a new work written for her by Carolyn Chen. Ford performs works from Project M, an initiative developing new music for clarinet and Mugic sensor through Max and Max4Live, including premieres by Rojin Sharafi and Lisa Atkinson as well as the New York premiere of Unstuck in Time by Mark Micchelli.
