The Music of Sir Karl Jenkins | DCINY

DCINY presents the 20th Anniversary of The Armed Man, A Mass for Peace by Sir Karl Jenkins. Maestro Jonathan Griffith leads the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International in The Armed Man with film as well as the North American premiere of Jenkins’ latest work, Miserere: Songs of Mercy and Redemption commissioned by Decca Records.

Radically Playful | Decoda

Beginning one hour prior to the concert and during intermission, audience members will have the chance to discover the context and inspiration for this “Radically Playful” program of folk music for an imaginary culture, a kitchen romance, and modern-day “musical offering” with Decoda musicians in the Jacobs Room at Carnegie Hall. Works to be performed include Missy Mazzoli’s Ecstatic Science, three Rags by William Bolcom, Indigenous Instruments by Steve Mackey, the world premiere of Brad Balliett’s Ice Princess (Suite from an Imaginary ballet; after Rameau), and La revue de cuisine by Bohuslav Martinu. A post-concert reception for all ticket holders will also be held in the Jacobs room.

You Are Under Our Space Control | Object Collection

The Brooklyn-based performance group Object Collection returns to La MaMa for the world premiere of the utopian “space-opera,” You Are Under our Space Control (YAUOSC). Fusing experimental music, political activism, and theater, this new production draws from space travel, transhumanism, astronautics, and the resurrection of the dead to re-envision the future of our daily lives.

The Noble Spirit | The Chelsea Symphony

Part of the fourteenth season RISE UP, this concert features the Fifth Symphony by Sergei Prokofiev, written during one month in the summer of 1944. Also on this concert series: TCS’s first drumset concerto presentation, Just Say Yes, by Alexandra Gardner featuring Michael Blancaflor and Milhaud’s first cello concert with Kurt Behnke, both on Friday night’s performance. Saturday’s concert welcomes TCS board member Sara Dudley’s soloist debut on the William Walton viola concerto. Both concerts open with Jennifer Higdon’s blue cathedral, commissioned by the Curtis Institute of Music to commemorate their 75th anniversary.
