Saariaho + Bach

This Finnish composer’s international reputation has continued to blossom since her packed 2009 Portrait at Miller. Jennifer Koh returns to play solo works by Bach and Saariaho. Directly inspired by the D minor partita, Saariaho’s Frises draws on Baroque forms (passacaglia, ground bass, chaconne) and stretches the sonic palette of the solo violin with live electronics.

Other Voices | Stephanie Loveless

Musical Ecologies continues with a program of digitally-based sound pieces by New York-based multi-media artist Stephanie Loveless. The evening will include works from the series For Lack of Voice as well as the quadrophonic composition Cricket, Tree, Crow wherein Loveless transforms sound recordings and vocally mimics the results in an attempt to embody a variety of others – from the singers of iconic 20th century songs, to plants, animals, and insects.
