She, After
Daniel Felsenfeld’s opera, She, After follows two famous literary characters: Nora from Henrik Ibsen’s iconic play, “A Doll’s House,” and Alice from Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” Only, these operas start where the traditional stories – the ones we’re familiar with – end. Nora has just left her husband, and Alice has grown old and is trapped in Wonderland. What will happen next? What will become of these women, after?

Sila: The Breath of the World
In a co-presentation with Lincoln Center Out of Doors, the 2014 summer festivities begin with the world premiere of American composer John Luther Adams’s Sila: The Breath of the World. In the Inuit tradition, sila is the spirit that animates all things—the wind, the weather, and all forces of nature. In Adams’s piece, composed specifically to be heard out of doors, musicians and listeners alike are encouraged to move about the performance space freely.
