Soprano Eliza Bagg premieres a substantial new song cycle from composer Alex Weiser. Bagg will also play violin and will be joined by pianist Lee Dionne, New Morse Code, and andPlay. The concert will open with a new arrangement of Weiser’s 2016 song cycle Three Epitaphs. Originally performed by Kate Maroney and Cantata Profana, Three Epitaphs features texts on love and the transience of life by Williams Carlos Williams, Seikilos, and Emily Dickinson.

The Dover Quartet offers a program celebrating the relaunch of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. The program will feature a pre-world-premiere sneak peak at selections from Daniel Schlosberg’s Twin Peak Fantasy – a musical kaleidoscope of Angelo Badalamenti’s renowned score of the original TV series. The Dover Quartet will also perform David Ludwig’s Pale Blue Dot, Caroline Shaw’s Plan & Elevation, and music from Angelo Badalamenti’s original score to Twin Peaks.

Pablo Ortiz: Vocal Portrait

Argentine composer Pablo Ortiz last collaborated with Music of the Americas on the U.S. premiere of his chamber opera Gallos y huesos in 2014. Sebastián Zubieta leads ensemble Meridionalis in a performance of several of Ortiz’s recent choral works, including Maizal del Gregoriano, set to text of Arnaldo Calveyra, and Leaving Limerick, on text by Richard Blanco.

Commissioned by New Thread Quartet and composed by David Morneau, this world premiere of Not Less Than the Good simulates a sunrise by combining the meditative playing of the saxophone quartet with ambient synthesizers and sounds recorded during the pre-dawn and early morning hours at Walden Pond. The hour-long performance is punctuated by readings of excerpts from Henry David Thoreau’s Walden performed by poet J. D. McClatchy.
