Night One | Resonant Bodies Festival
The fifth annual Resonant Bodies Festival opens with jazz singer and composer Theo Bleckmann performing Songs in Color and Black and White, a piece he has written and developed over the past seventeen years. Culture Ireland supports the appearance of Jennifer Walshe—composer, improviser, and vocalist— who will collaborate with International Contemporary Ensemble in presenting The Church of Frequency and Protein. Davóne Tines will present compositions of his own creation for voice and piano, as well as arrangements of traditional songs, in a 45-minute work that includes light sculptures commemorating innocent black lives taken through police violence.

supercodex [live set] | Ryoji Ikeda
Ryoji Ikeda opens Crossing the Line 2017 with his most recent audiovisual concert. Ikeda stands alone on stage surrounded by projections of black and white digital imagery. Using raw data and mathematical models, he mines information for rhythmic beats. The result is a beeping, pulsating, immersive mix of sound and multimedia art that dazzles the senses and explores the nuances between, in his words, “data of sound” and “sound of data.”

Night Two | Resonant Bodies Festival
Odeya Nini
Night two opens with the first-ever composition by Hai-Ting Chinn for her vocal trio Triumphatrix, followed by Science Fair: The Astronomy Edition with Erika Switzer. Following is Joan La Barbara, presenting another world premiere: celebrating her 70th year on the planet, La Barbara presents a piece of a new opera based on the lives and work of Joseph Cornell and Virginia Woolf. The evening closes with Odeya Nini’s ever-evolving work A Solo Voice.

Night Three | Resonant Bodies Festival

Mary Bonhag presents a collection of 20th and 21st century pieces, including Changing Light by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, Two Poems of Agueda Pizarro by Joseph Schwanter, and excerpts from Looking at Spring by composer Lembit Beecher. Kamala Sankaram premieres Ololgya, inspired by Anne Carson’s essay “The Gender of Sound,” with additional works by Gilda Lyons, Pat Muchmore, and a guest appearance by her band Bombay Rickey. The festival closes with Kayleigh Butcher presenting newly commissioned works by Sivan Cohen Elias, Cara Haxo, Andrew Tham, and Daniel Felsenfeld, with the help of choreographers Katelyn Halpern and Miro Magloire, as well as violinist Hajnal Pivnick.
