Track Premiere: Philipp Rumsch Ensemble Performs “Part IV”

Today, and we have a track premiere from German composer, pianist, and sound designer Philipp Rumsch from his upcoming album Reflections, out on March 2nd.

On Reflections, Rumsch explores the use and gradual overlaying of repetitive structures of rhythms like patterns or grooves. Rumsch started from the idea of translating the sound language of Ambient, Minimal Music, and Pop into an orchestral format in an abstract way. In autumn 2015, he formed an ensemble in order to explore this kind of music with a compositional-conceptual approach, while integrating the idea of improvisation at the same time.

Of today’s track premiere, Rumsch says:

“Part IV” is characterized by its core components–two different drum patterns that each slowly morph from one state to another, and a short melodic phrase–which determine both form and material. Interrupted by a middle section, one can perceive two parts with several co-existing rhythmic layers and gradually evolving harmonic changes. The variation and treatment of the main phrase climaxes in a dense tutti before the piece is closed by a coda consisting of a processed choir.

Reflections is available for pre-order via the Denovali website.
