The Brooklyn Youth Chorus celebrates the release of their album Silent Voices, which includes works by Caroline Shaw, Nico Muhly, Shara Nova, Toshi Reagon, Jeff Beal, Mary Kouyoumdjian, Ellis Ludwig-Leone, Kamala Sankaram, and Paul Miller/DJ Spooky.

Pipa virtuoso Wu Man leads the Taipei Chinese Orchestra’s debut at Carnegie Hall. The ensemble, conducted by Cheng Li-Pin, will present four U.S. premieres. Founded in 1979, the Taipei Chinese Orchestra is a traditional Chinese instrument orchestra in Taiwan.

Savage Winter

Holed-up in a cheap desert motel room, amid empty pizza boxes and beer cans, a man comes spectacularly unglued. In this reimagining of Wilhelm Müller’s poetry cycle Winterreise—most famously set by Schubert—composer Douglas J. Cuomo and director Jonathan Moore transform Müller’s lovelorn winter wanderer into a demon-haunted Everyman.

End of the War to End All Wars

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, World War I – the Great War – ended. Musica Viva NY and the New Orchestra of Washington commemorate this solemn occasion one hundred years later with a co-commission from acclaimed American composer Joseph Turrin based on texts by war poets. The program also features works by Holst and Ravel, both composers directly affected by World War I.

The Great War: Commemorating 100 Years
