Face the Music: Critical Mass with Claire Chase & Tri-Centric Foundation

Face the Music joins forces with flutist Claire Chase, mezzo-soprano Lucy Dhegrae, and musicians of Anthony Braxton’s Tri-Centric Foundation in string quartet, jazz ensemble, improvisation ensemble, and orchestra configurations. The program includes music by Vijay Iyer, Anthony Braxton’s Composition 151, and Kyle Gann’s Cap Wind Rock, written for Dhegrae.

5BMF, NYFOS, and The Center present this unique salon of contemporary songs by LGBT identified composers and librettists, curated by composer Laura Kaminsky. The concert includes the world premiere of a collaboratively created song cycle by Kaminsky, Jennifer Higdon, Laura Karpman, Paula Kimper, Nora Kroll-Rosenbaum, and Kayla Cashetta, set to the poems of Elaine Sexton; the program will also feature Fierce Grace: Jeannette Rankin with libretto by Kimberly Reed and contributions by Kaminsky, Karpman, Kitty Brazelton, and Ellen Reid, performed by mezzo-soprano Heather Johnson and pianist Mila Henry.
