Lisa Bielawa will curate a residency at The Stone at The New School. The series, Bielawa: Blueprints, places a magnifying glass on Bielawa’s large-scale projects, with performances of the intimate chamber-setting pieces she used to develop material for her larger works including her 12-episode made-for-TV opera Vireo and her Broadcast series of works designed for performance in vast public spaces, and works for large orchestral and choral forces. This concert features performances by Lisa Bielawa (voice) and Gregory Purnhagan (voice).

Alex Waterman | Musical Ecologies

The 2019-20 season of Musical Ecologies continues Thursday, March 12th with composer, performer, producer, and scholar Alex Waterman. Working in a variety of contexts and mediums, including sound installations, television operas and film and video works, Waterman is perhaps best known as a cellist and performer. For tonight’s program, he will present a rare evening of new solo works titled Towards a Typology of Realities We Coincide With(in) or “Why don’t we see each other any more?” for cello, electronics, and mixed media as well as a selection of new stories and songs. The evening will begin with a conversation hosted by series curator Dan Joseph.

American Composers Orchestra will hold its 29th Annual Underwood New Music Readings for emerging composers on Thursday and Friday, March 12 and 13, 2020. Six composers will hear ACO perform their work live for the first time, receive personalized mentorship, and an archival recording. The Underwood Commission, a $15,000 commission for a new work for ACO, will be awarded to one of this year’s participants who include the following: Dai Wei, Anthony R. Green, Paul Novak, Christian Quiñones, Gity Razaz, and Keane Southard.
