On Saturday, June 21, Make Music New York will present 1,300 free concerts in New York City. MATA will join the party through an iOS App. Walk With Me is “a complex of topographic compositions performed by means of a smartphone app, operating within and designed for predetermined environments.” Dutch composer duo Strijbos and Van Rijswijk will curate New York Walkscape, a musical experience that the public will discover as they explore Lower Manhattan through the app. The music will be a remix of recordings from the archives of MATA and the Gaudeamus Festival. Featured composers will include Jan Bas Bollen, Marita Bolles, Beavan Flanagan, Florent Ghys, Annie Gosfield, Hugi Gudmunsson, Jeff Herriott, Edward Hamel, Andrzej Kwiecinski, Cecilia Lopez, Ned McGowan, Filippo Perocco, Eric Roth, Benjamin Scheuer, and Andys Skordis.
To add more fun, MATA is organizing a scavenger hunt: Two composers and two performers will be present at a couple of secret locations—clues will be given on MATA’s Facebook page—at the following times:
- 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm: MATA alumni composers Florent Ghys and Annie Gosfield will be present at the places their music is heard.
- 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm: Ana Milosavljevic will play Missy Mazzoli’s Dissolve, O My Heart
- 5:15 pm – 6:15 pm: Eileen Mack performs Aaron Helgeson‘s A Place Toward Other Places
Be the first person to find all performances and both composers, and post photos using the hashtag #NYWALKSCAPE (on Twitter? Instagram? Facebook? Google+?) to receive a special recognition from MATA and a $100 cash prize.
