Dreamscapes: Metropolis Ensemble celebrates their second studio album

The Metropolis Ensemble will be celebrating the release of their second studio album. Dreamscapes is a world premiere recording of three works by Edmonton-born composer Vivian Fung released on Naxos. The recording features Ms. Fung’s acclaimed Violin Concerto (2011) and Piano Concerto Dreamscapes (2009), performed by Metropolis Ensemble with conductor Andrew Cyr, violinist Kristin Lee, and pianist Conor Hanick; and her Glimpses for prepared piano (2006), performed by Mr. Hanick. All three of the works on the new recording have drawn their inspiration from Ms. Fung’s travels to Bali.

Memories of You: A Tribute Concert for William Duckworth

Le Poisson Rouge presents a special tribute concert to the late composer William Duckworth, organized in collaboration with the composer’s family, friends, and colleagues in the new music community. Guest artists will include Neely Bruce, Lois Svard, Margaret Leng Tan, Elizabeth Saunders, Thomas Buckner, and Joseph Kubera, performing selections from Duckworth’s music for piano and voice.

John Cage’s Variations IV | Ne(x)tworks

To celebrate iconoclastic American composer John Cage’s centenary, Ne(x)tworks presents the evening-length work Variations IV (1963). A handful of the works being performed include Music for… (1984-87), various Solo’s from Concert for Piano and Orchestra (1958), Four6 (1992), Aria (1958) (performed by close Cage associate, vocalist Joan La Barbara), Variations II (1961), Experiences II (1948), Atlas Eclipticalis (1961), among many others.

Set to a new sound score by the composers of W4, LOFT is a 3-part work based on the movements of predatory birds. Also on the program is the world premiere of I want…, a new mixed media solo performed by Rachel Abrahams.
