Day of Musical Action | Kaufman Music Center
The entire Kaufman Music Center community will come together for a Day of Musical Action, a special online event featuring performances by students and faculty from all of the Center’s programs, including Special Music School, Lucy Moses School, Face the Music and Luna Composition Lab. The event feature performances by violinist Joshua Bell, Broadway stars Nikki Renée Daniels and Jeff Kready, Broadway composer Alan Menken, conductor David Robertson (performing Steve Reich’s Clapping Music with his twin sons), pianist Orli Shaham, composer/violinist/vocalist Caroline Shaw, flutist Carol Wincenc, legendary songwriter Paul Williams, pianist Shai Wosner and others to be announced, along with Kaufman Music Center Artists-in-Residence JACK Quartet, composer/flutist/vocalist Nathalie Joachim, and composer/educator Rob Kapilow. Also appearing will be pianist Emanuel Ax, flutist Sir James Galway, composer Missy Mazzoli, and broadcasters Terrance McKnight and John Schaefer.

House Music | Metropolis Ensemble
Metropolis Ensemble’s series, House Music, reflects its values of putting community at the heart of its practice, and allows it to continue to create opportunities for artists to do what they do best: make and share new music. All artists are being paid for their work. Metropolis Ensemble is commissioning performers to present bite-sized works from contemporary composers, as well as composers to create new works specifically for this series, which are then recorded from wherever the artists are sheltering. “House Music” launched in late March and streams live every Tuesday and Thursday.

Broadcast Premiere of ETHEL’s HomeBaked Round IV
Since 2010, ETHEL has supported the careers of emerging composers through its ETHEL’s HomeBaked commissions. The works of Simon Brown, Sarah Goldfeather, Nailah Nombeko, and Sugar Vendil, along with two pieces by additional early-career composers Harrison Ponce and Walter Smith, were presented in a concert last December at National Sawdust. On June 3, ETHEL will broadcast this performance in its entirety.

Next Fest Connects: STEPPING WITH RESONANCE – Music and Movement as One
Join choreographer S. Ama Wray and composer Derek Bermel in a talk that will explore various modes of collaboration between music and dance, exploring topics including aesthetics, improvisation, dynamic rhythm, and the development of an interdisciplinary vocabulary. Alone Together | Jennifer Koh
Violinist Jennifer Koh’s Alone Together is an online commissioning project that brings composers together in support of the many freelancers among them. Twenty-one composers have each agreed to donate a new, 30-second micro-work for solo violin while also recommending a fellow composer to write their own 30-second solo violin work on paid commission from the artist-driven nonprofit ARCO Collaborative. Koh will premiere a selection of these donated and commissioned works each Saturday at 7:00 p.m Eastern Time.

Free Online Concerts: Culture in the Time of Corona
The Streetlight Guild, in partnership with the Johnstone Fund for New Music, presents Culture in the Time of Corona, a series of 6 free live-stream concerts taking place at The Streetlight Guild on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 PM. in April, May, and June. The purpose of these performances is to provide musicians with much-needed income, as many of them have experienced cancelled gigs due to public health concerns, and to provide the public at large with much-needed musical therapy during an unprecedented time of crisis. Joseph Pereira & Chester Englander | Connecting ACO Community
In response to the impacts of COVID-19 on composers and performers, American Composers Orchestra announces Connecting ACO Community, a new initiative to commission short works for solo instrument or voice. Each composer will receive $500 to write the work, and each performer will receive $500 to perform the work, with the rights to stream for six months. With this project, ACO aims to support artists who need financial assistance; to create new work that will live beyond this crisis; and provide virtual, interactive performances to ACO’s supporters and the general public. This event will include the world premiere of Joseph Pereira’s new work for cimbalom artist Chester Englander and an exclusive Q&A with the composer and performer, hosted by Ed Yim and Derek Bermel.
