Contemporaneous IMAGINATION Presents
In a snapshot of the endlessly varied forms of musical expression throughout our community, the 22 musicians of Contemporaneous will host a non-genre musical gathering with performances by some of the most powerful artists working amongst us – daring avant-rock band Boio, the genre-obliterating Warp Trio, and Forward Music Project, Amanda Gookin’s multimedia project of solo cello works developed to empower women and girls.

2019 Bang on a Can People’s Commissioning Fund Concert | Ecstatic Music Festival

This year, Bang on a Can’s PCF invites all of North America to dance, with world premieres by four composers from Canada, Mexico, and the United States – Nicole Lizée, Josué Collado Fregoso, Henry Threadgill, and Trevor Weston. Each composer was asked to make his or her own idiosyncratic form of dance music, to redefine what it means to create music for dancing. The second half of the concert features three classics from Bang on a Can history by Annie Gosfield, Arnold Dreyblatt, and Glenn Branca, with a rare performance of Branca’s massive “three dimensional” Movement Within, written specifically for the Bang on a Can All-Stars, in his unique tuning system and on his own original instruments.

Artemisia | Time’s Arrow Festival
Trinity presents the staged world premiere of Laura Schwendinger’s Artemisia, an opera exploring the life of the famed 17th-century female Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi who explored trauma through her art, depicting herself as Susanna in her painting Susanna and the Elders.

Le Jardin Qui Rit (The Laughing Garden) | Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre
Le Jardin Qui Rit is performed to live music composed and performed by Alexandra Vrebalov with lighting and sets by Bessie Award winner Roderick Murray. This is the second collaboration between Vrebalov and Týnek. In 2018, Týnek’s Anna, based on Anna Karenina, with music scored by Vrebalov, premiered in New York.

Lagrime Mei | Time’s Arrow Festival

Lagrime Mei explores the female perspective in composition, particularly the raw evocation of emotion heard in the music of the famous baroque artist Barbara Strozzi, who broke through gender barriers to become the most successful composer of secular vocal music in Venice in her time. Works by Strozzi and several of her contemporaries are paired with world premieres of Trinity-commissioned works focusing on empowering female voices. With world premieres by Jessica Meyer, Doug Balliett, Molly Joyce, and Alyssa Weinberg.

Ekmeles
Ekmeles will perform new works by ICEBERG New Music composers Stephanie Ann Boyd, Victor Baez, Derek Cooper, Max Grafe, and Jonathan Russ.
