Today, we are premiering a track from Qasim Naqvi‘s new album Film, a self release published by Erased Tapes Music out on September 29th.
Film is a body of analog electronic music created for two separate projects by Naeem Mohaiemen: the feature film Tripoli Cancelled and the three-channel video installation Two Meetings and a Funeral. Both works premiered at documenta 14. Naqvi wrote 18 compositions for both projects, but Film features a curated selection of 10 pieces that create a cohesive musical arc.
“Wreckage” is from Tripoli Cancelled, a fiction feature about a week in the life of a man who is either prisoner of, or monarch over, a desolate home that is gradually revealed to be an airport. Naqvi had the following to say about the piece:
With “Wreckage,” I was going for an ecstatic state borne from isolation; an emotional unraveling of the film’s main and only character. The music feels buried and far away at first, and it gradually moves to the foreground.
Like Naqvi’s last release Chronology (2016), Film is an homage to the Moog instrument legacy, but it goes further with the introduction of analog modular systems.

Qasim Naqvi is a drummer, composer, and member of the group Dawn of Midi. When he is not touring with DOM, he composes music for film, dance, theater and chamber ensembles domestically and abroad. Qasim’s soundtracks and arrangements for film have appeared on HBO, NBC, PBS, The Sundance Channel, The New York Times, The Tribeca Film Festival, The Academy Awards, The Sundance Film Festival, The Toronto Film Festival, dOCUMENTA 13 and 14, The Guggenheim Museum, Vice TV, The Human Rights Watch Film Festival, IDFA and others.

Presently, Qasim writes chamber and electronic music in Brooklyn, New York and works on a variety of projects as a freelance composer and drummer. He is represented by Erased Tapes Publishing.
