Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival 2015 concludes with a staged workshop performance of Victoria Bond’s opera Clara, with a libretto by Barbara Zinn Krieger, inspired by the life of Clara Schumann. The opera focuses on Clara Schumann’s tormented relationship with her father, her tempestuous romance with Robert Schumann and her struggle to balance her family obligations with her brilliant career. The performance features Gramercy Trio, and vocalists Meredith Mecum, Benjamin Bloomfield, Robert Osborne, and Paul Han.

Petr Kotik leads the Orchestra of the SEM Ensemble and members of Ostravská banda in large orchestral pieces by George Lewis, Roscoe Mitchell (World premiere, with Thomas Buckner, baritone), Wadada Leo Smith, and AACM founder Muhal Richard Abrams. The evening will include a rare performance by the distinguished improvising trio of Muhal Richard Abrams (piano) George Lewis (trombone) and Roscoe Mitchell (saxophone).
