In a blazing Labor Day finale to Rite of Summer’s 2012 season, Todd Reynolds, “New York’s reigning Jazz and Classical Violinist” (The New Yorker), and fiddle-player of choice for avant-gardists everywhere, has assembled a stellar cast of characters to explore the vortex where bluegrass, electronica, minimalism and classical music swirl. Featuring music of glass harmonica virtuoso Jonny Rodgers, avant-bluegrass guitarist Jordan Tice (The Jordan Tice Trio), the singular percussionist Mathias Kunzli, currently on tour with Regina Spektor, and esteemed jazz bassist Michael O’Brien.

On September 5, 2012 – the 100th birthday of John Cage, New York Chamber Music Festival presents a collection of John Cage gems: Living Room Music; Four for String Quartet; Third Construction; 59 1/2; Sonata for Two Voices; Branches; The City Wears a Slouch Hat with the participation of members of the MET Opera percussion section, led by Greg Zuber (MET Principal Percussionist), and conducted by world-renowned MET Opera Maestro Derrick Inouye, violinists Elmira Darvarova and Cornelius Dufallo, violist Ching Chen Juhl, cellist Wendy Sutter. Also participating: MET Opera star bass-baritone Morris Robinson and New York City Opera soprano Karen Beardsley Peters. Amram’s Chamber Music and Kerouac’s On the Road
New York Chamber Music Festival presents chamber music works by multi-instrumentalist and legendary composer David Amram, whose groundbreaking work, combining jazz and classical music, led to scores for movies like the Manchurian Candidate. A virtuoso performer himself, David Amram’s integration of jazz, ethnic and folk music has led him to work with legends like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Stan Getz, as well as Willie Nelson, Pete Seeger, Leonard Bernstein, Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, and Jack Kerouac. In a program featuring several of his chamber music compositions, as well as readings from Jack Kerouac’s iconic On the Road, David Amram collaborates with “The Sopranos” actor John Ventimiglia, world-renowned flutist Carol Wincenc, MET principal percussionist Greg Zuber, former MET Opera concertmaster Elmira Darvarova, New York Philharmonic hornist Howard Wall, famed cellist Wendy Sutter, acclaimed pianists Tomoko Kanamaru and Hsin-Chiao Liao, the David Amram Quartet, members of the New York Piano Quartet and members of the ensemble Face the Music with artistic director Jennifer Undercofler.

JACK Quartet performs composer/cellist Ha-Yang Kim’s recently revised epic opus, Threadsuns, a 40+ minute work inspired by the cryptic mystical poetry of Paul Celan.
