New York Piano Quartet Performs Austrian Composers

In a program featuring Austrian composers from yesterday and today, the New York Piano Quartet performs the magnificent one-movement virtuosic “Rhapsodie” by Joseph Marx (a work, of which in 2010 the New York Piano Quartet gave the American premiere), paired with Korngold’s monumental Suite Op. 23 for piano left hand and strings, as well as with Gernot Wolfgang’s jazzy 2011 “From Vienna with Love”, which was dedicated to, and premiered and recorded by the New York Piano Quartet – this work represents a completion of the unfinished sketch for a second movement of Mahler’s own 1879 piano quartet.

Moving Sounds Festival | Mivos Quartet

This concert will feature works by two young composers, Reiko Fueting and Carl Christian Bettendorf. Both left their native Germany over a decade ago, and they have found new homes within a few blocks from each other, at the Manhattan School of Music (Fueting) and Columbia University (Bettendorf). After having received their doctorates from these institutions, they currently serve on the composition and theory faculties of their respective alma maters.

New York Chamber Music Festival presents the New York Recital Debut of the Italian Duo Bellarosa-Vergini (saxophone-piano), winners of the 2012 Salieri-Zinetti international competition in Verona, Italy. Duo Bellarosa-Vergini possesses a rare combination of fabulous virtuosity and phenomenal artistry. The collaboration between the saxophonist Guerino Bellarosa and the pianist Marco Vergini is based on a shared deep interest in 20th C. music, as well as contemporary works. The ensemble combines outstanding interpretations of original chamber repertoire with special attention to the innovative harmonic tonal nuances. In this program – sonatas by Decruck, Albright, Creston, and Ravel.

ISSUE Project Room presents The Bee Symphony (US Premiere) and other works by Chris Watson and Marcus Davidson as part of the week long festival celebrating Touch’s 30th Anniversary. Comprised of field recordingsby Chris Watson and Mike Harding, presented by Harding with a vocal arrangement conducted live by MarcusDavidson, The Bee Symphony explores the vocal harmonies between humans and animals. Harding alsopresents Watson’s Forest Floor, recordings from the jungle in Borneo, and the World Premiere of a new workby Watson and Davidson, a journey from Bergen, off the coast of Norway, to Antarctica, above and below thesurface of the ocean.
